HOW TO TIE A BOW TIE - THE AUGUSTUS HARE WAY

Design

Honore de Balzac believed that “a bow tie is itself a letter of introduction”. The man wearing a bow tie displays confidence, capability and playfulness, a character you’d like to know. Our first collection of bows focus on polka dots in a range of colours and sizes. Polka dot bow ties are the ultimate chameleons; as at home with seriousness as with revelry. The shape of a bow tie is of utmost importance and says as much about the wearer as the pattern does. The Augustus Hare shape is very subtly oversized. Too large and the bow loses its gravitas. Too small and it looks mean. Just larger than ordinary marks you out as a man of considered taste.

Production

Our exclusive designs are sent to our tie maker in the north of England. Here the cloth is carefully cut to our house shape. Depending on the weight of the cloth used, a natural interlining is chosen to help maintain the shape of the bow through years of use. Bow ties are sewn together inside out, giving the silk a perfectly rounded edge. All of our bow ties are self tying with adjustable collars to suit all neck sizes.

Materials

Our bow ties are made from both woven and printed silk, coming from the finest mills in Suffolk and Macclesfield respectively. Woven silk, a textured cloth, gives the bow a slightly stiffer but richer look, while printed silk gives a bow more natural drape. Both cloths make stunning bow ties.
