Our woven ties are inspired by the beautiful patterns all around us: a well stacked pile of firewood, sunlight revealing the capillaries of a leaf, the graceful mathematics of a feather. These thoughts are distilled and refined into simple sketches with pencil and paper. Colours are chosen from a diverse palette to be interesting and unusual. The sketch is then rendered as a CAD and every detail is carefully considered. Finally a sample length of cloth is woven. Only when the silk is at last in our hands do we know if the thoughts that began months earlier will make a necktie that is a pleasure to wear.
All of our silk is woven in Suffolk in a mill that has been weaving some of the world’s finest silk since the 1720’s, it has been run by the same family for nine generations. Working with a local mill means that we have strict control over each element in the weaving process. This exceptionally fine cloth is then taken to the north of England where craftsmen hand cut and hand sew our cloth into neckties. The qualities of a handmade tie are immediately apparent. No rough machinery is involved; just the skilled and time honoured process of needle and thread. The result is a tie which noticeably softer and more luxurious.
Woven silk is a magical fabric. Heavy in the hand, the amount of silk thread that is woven in our cloth is considerable. The three dimensional nature of weaving means that ties catch the light and appear subtly different throughout the day. Made up mainly of jacquard and ribbed weaves, the heaviness of our silk is not heavy, but carries weight. The quality is instantly obvious. All of our woven ties are tipped with a signature lime green ribbed silk.
